Pathways to green jobs: strategies and policy options for a sustainable job-rich recovery
The MLP Thematic Event was held on Wednesday, 26 June 2013 in Brussels and was devoted to "Pathways to green jobs: strategies and policy options for a sustainable job-rich recovery".
Progress towards the transition to a low carbon, resource efficient economy will coincide with structural changes in employment, which relates to strengthening green skills intelligence. In the context of mutual learning, the Thematic Event gave rise to four questions for stimulating debate:
1. What are the key conditions for integrating employment and skills strategies with other areas of public policy to promote green growth?
2. What are the key challenges in supporting the development of eco-industries and sectors in need of restructuring to deliver green growth and employment?
3. What lessons should be learned from attempts to anticipate the labour market effects of policy measures and initiatives to promote a green economy?
4. What lessons should be learned from attempts to support the restructuring of the labour force and its reorientation towards growing ‘green’ sectors?
Reflecting the diversity of stakeholders and the call for more integrated and coordinated strategies and actions across policy areas at international, national, regional and local levels, perspectives will be sought from international policy analysts, researchers, the social partners, NGOs and other national and regional actors responsible for formulating, implementing and assessing policy initiatives to support greener economies.
